Carmela Iavarone, 97, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.
Mrs. Iavarone was born in Jersey City to Valentine and Madeline Adinolfe, and lived there until moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1951. She retired to Palm Coast, Florida in 1980 and returned to Point Pleasant in 2015. For many years, she worked alongside her husband at their business, Jerry’s Meat Market, in Brick. She was a skilled seamstress, cook and baker, an avid card player, and a member of the Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church. But above all else, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Iavarone was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jerry, in 1999, by a daughter, Geraldine Nowag, by a grandson, Jerry Iavarone, and by all six of her siblings. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Eva and Henry A. (“Skip”) Scheyer, Jr., of Point Pleasant, and Dr. Joseph J. and Lori Iavarone, of South Plainfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Debra Riggi, Henry A. Scheyer III, Dr. Barbara Costa, Elizabeth Isoldi, Joseph J. Iavarone, Jr., Kimberley Buscaglia, Amanda Iavarone and Nadine Smalling. In addition, she is survived by her 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, on Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 5-9 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, on Monday, at 10 AM, followed by entombment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
