Obituary for Merna L. Jennings

Merna L. Jennings
Merna Lee Jennings, 89 of Spring Lake Heights, NJ and Stuart, FL passed away peacefully in Wall Township, NJ on July 18, 2017. Merna was the beloved wife of John Thomas Jennings (deceased 2012).

Born and raised in Irvington, NJ, Merna was the daughter of Edward and Adele McKenna. Merna graduated from Irvington High School in New Jersey.

Merna loved her family and was always willing to sacrifice for them. During the 60’s, Merna and Tom supported Union Little League and made major contributions to that organization both on and off the field. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s, Merna was very involved with various committees at Newark Academy, Livingston, NJ and the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Short Hills, NJ. Those close to Merna would agree that vacations at the Jersey Shore and Snowmass, Colorado with family were her most cherished memories.

Surviving are Merna’s three sons, Tom Jr. and his wife Lyn of Sea Girt, NJ; Rob and his wife Linda of Tewksbury, NJ and David and his wife Marianne of Mountainside. She was the dear grandmother of Tracy Klein, Kristin Miller, Rob, Samantha, Dana, David and Alaina. She was great-grandmother to Avery Klein, Brycen Klein, and Maddie Miller. Preceding Merna in death was her son Edward Patrick Jennings (1954-1955).

A family service will take place in New Jersey and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John Thomas “Tom” Jennings’ name to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834 or www.alz.org. To leave messages of condolence please visit www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
