Obituary for Mary Y. Schambach (Young)

Mary Y.  Schambach (Young)
Mary Y. Schambach, 90, of Sea Girt, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017.
Mrs. Schambach (nee Young) was born and raised in Raleigh, N.C. As a teenager during WW II, she served as a Civil Air Patrol pilot. After coming to New Jersey to attend the College of St. Elizabeth, she met John J. Schambach in 1946. After marrying in 1947, they raised their six children in Bernardsville, where Mary served as an elected Councilperson. They moved to Sea Girt in 1968, where Mary served as the Proprietor and Innkeeper of the Ridgewood House until her death. Mary was an accomplished woman, having served as a teacher at St. Peter’s School, Pt. Pleasant Beach, and as a Broker with Clapp & Schambach Realty, Spring Lake Heights. She was also a gardener, a member of the Holly Club of Sea Girt, an artist working in all genres, a skier, an environmental advocate, a world traveler, a sailor who minded the jibs, and a gourmet cook. But above all, Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. “Our Mom will be missed by many, young and old, near and far.”
Mrs. Schambach was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Mary Agnes (nee Lynskey) Young, by her first husband, John J. Schambach, in 1995, and by her brother, Jack Young. She is survived by her second husband, Stephen M. Kenyon, and by her children and their spouses, Skip Schambach, Columbia Falls, Mt., Pat and Pat Schambach, Oak Hill, Va., Tricia and Jack Brennan, Lake Como, N.J., Mark and Ann Schambach, Mocksville, N.C., Eric Schambach, Rutland, Vt., and Daryl and Lynn Schambach, of Brielle, N.J. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and Mary’s brothers, Edward Young, Chicago, Il., and Patrick Young, Bradley Beach, N.J.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Sunday, October 29, 2017, from 3-8 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt, on Monday, October 30, 2017, at 9:30 A.M., followed by burial at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the College of St. Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J. 07960.
