The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lucia Keane can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

It is with my deepest regret that I just learned of Lucia’s passing. Twenty-eight years ago I met Lucia and John as they took ownership of the Sunnyside Nursing Home. They were indeed a blessing. Their care and concern for the elderly was like none other I have ever witnessed in over 40 years of association with healthcare Facilities. Lucia was always around with her husband John and their daughter MaryEllen. They worked tirelessly to make sure residents were comfortable, happy and as “healthy as they could they possibly be.” Lucia had a beautiful personality which made both residents, family and visitors feel welcome. Her special love for Sunnyside made it a “Welcome Home” not just another facility. Many times I would just sit down with Lucia and John after an affair and just talk. It was more than a business relationship……they were family to me. It has been said that “beside every successful man, there is a woman.” THAT WAS LUCIA. They were inseparable and together created an environment of LOVE ……not just for their family and friends but for those who lives they touched. Their generosity and kindness were unexcelled. Lucia’s memories will live on….never to be forgotten. Her life should be an inspiration to all of us, especially those seeking a career in social work. Lucia has made a difference in so many lives and in the community. If you met and knew Lucia, you were a better person for it……if you didn’t know her…… you missed meeting a most loving, caring and gentle woman. It is so sad at this time to simply say “I’m sorry” …… there are no words for me to express my grief to the Keane family….. Let us pause and remember her goodness.....and exemplify her life here on earth by our deeds. Lucia, you will remain in our hearts forever. God Bless ALL the Keane family and may their sadness be somewhat comforted by the support of all whose lives Lucia has touched.
