Obituary for Bruce Donald Boyle

Bruce Donald  Boyle
Bruce Boyle died Sunday, January 28, 2018 near his home in Sea Girt, NJ. He was 81. Married to his wife Florence for more than 50 years, they raised five children between Montclair, Sea Girt and Warren Vermont. He was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt, NJ and an active member of the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club, Bay Head Yacht Club and New York Yacht Club. He was also a member of the National Arts Club in New York City and Ski Club 10 at Sugarbush, Vermont.

Bruce was a Commercial and Industrial developer for more than 30 years. He successfully led more than 200 projects across the country in an array of heavy industries and complex undertakings in everything from airplane hangars to office buildings. He had a particular focus in the marine industry where he was an early environmentalist with cutting edge design and development of recreational Marinas in NJ and NY.
Bruce was also an accomplished athlete and sports enthusiast. He was a two-sport standout at Lehigh University in both basketball and hockey. He was a competitive race car driver, an exceptional billiards player and a skilled tennis player. He was a pioneer Waterman starting in the early 1950s in Sea Girt where he was one of the first surfers in NJ, a commercial diver and a competitive sailor. Bruce loved competition and he excelled in everything from boxing to racing Hobie Cats.

As passionate as Bruce was about sport, he cherished his family and friends even more. Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Florence Boyle, his children; Patrick and his wife Farley, Shayne Boyle, Darian Boyle and her husband Jeff Lubin, Bruce Boyle and his wife Elizabeth, Michaela Carhart and her husband Chris, a sister Sheila Otto and 14 grandchildren; Mackenzie, Chase, Abigail, Dylan, Quinn, Emma, Gage, Luke, Bruce, Lillian, Christopher, Strider, Cross and his youngest grandchild Darian Mary.

A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10:30 AM at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake. Burial will follow in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.
